Ceramic Tile and Other Types of Tile

There is no doubt about it, ceramic tile is the tile that we install most often at Folsom Tile, whether it is in the bathroom or kitchen, it’s usually at the top of our customer’s list. We also install ceramic tiles for both commercial and residential use. Tile flooring offers you one of the most cost-effective and eco-friendly flooring options. Ceramic tile is made in two different forms, unglazed and glazed. You may hear of quarry tile but in actuality it is really unglazed tile. Ceramic tiles are made of heated clay. It is the glaze that brings forth the color of tile. It is the glazing of the tile that creates so many different color combinations. Unglazed or quarry tile is a very inexpensive and durable tile option that is not prone to scratches and chips. This is just one of the many reasons so many choose this ceramic tiles.
 
Porcelain Tile
Another very popular tile is porcelain tile, which surprisingly is also a ceramic tile. The difference between porcelain and ceramic tile is that porcelain is made of a finer-grained clay and is fired at a much higher temperature. These are the elements that make porcelain tile denser and less porous. It also holds up better against stains and moisture. These are the things that also make porcelain most suited for indoor and outdoor use. Porcelain can be very difficult to cut due to its density, which is why labor cost are often more expensive. You can have a matte, high-polish or unglazed finished porcelain tile installed and tile repaired.

When it comes to the amount of tile options that are offered, no one has as much to offer to you than we do at Folsom Tile. Here are some of your many options that can be used for both floors and walls.

• Marble tile is offered in many color variations that enable our installers to design a one-of-a-kind design for our customer’s home. This type of tile needs to be properly sealed and is very porous.
• Sandstone tile is very durable and has a grainy texture to it. They range in color from yellow to red. We often install this type of tile in kitchens.
• Travertine tile is also considered a limestone. We generally use them for bathroom floors, kitchen backsplashes, and shower tiles. They are soft and are very cost effective, which one reason so many choose them for their flooring needs.
• Granite tile is used most often in the kitchen on countertops and floors and in the bathroom for both floors and showers. They are antibacterial and are resistant to water and moisture.
• Onyx tile is known for its creamy color. While it is more expensive than many of the other tiles, it is still a desirable, luxury option for many of our customers. It is a popular choice for flooring in certain parts of the home. They are fragile so you must choose wisely as to where they will be installed.
